John Prine signing

John Prine’s Oh Boy Records Announces Exclusive Distribution Partnership With Thirty Tigers

Oh Boy Records, the independent label founded in 1981 by songwriter John Prine and his manager Al Bunetta, is excited to announce their exclusive music distribution partnership with Thirty Tigers. From July 1st Thirty Tigers will officially manage the European distribution  as part of the worldwide distribution agreement of Oh Boy’s physical and digital catalogue, as well as upcoming projects. Prine says of the partnership, “We get to make the music we want to, in the way we always have, with support from a company that works with many other independent artists I admire.”

Oh Boy Records and Thirty Tigers are both based in Nashville, TN, which will make for a close working relationship. “There are a few moments in this business that I will always remember, and I’ll put right at the top of the list when I found out that we were being bestowed the honour of fighting for the music of John Prine,” says Thirty Tigers Founder David Macias. “The wit, the empathy, the songwriting perfection have been the North Star for so many artists, and his music has meant so much to me personally. I can’t wait to get started.”

Founded at a time when artist-run labels were extremely rare, Oh Boy Records has become one of the most respected independent labels in the business. In 2015, after the sudden passing of Al Bunetta, Prine became the sole owner and President of OBR. Now a family run company, John’s wife, Fiona Whelan Prine, is Managing Partner, oldest son, Jody Whelan is Director of Operations. Supporting Jody with day-to-day operations is Eileen Tilson, Director of Marketing. Whelan agrees, “We’re very excited to start working with Thirty Tigers. Oh Boy Records is a label dedicated to songwriters and their craft, and Thirty Tigers will help support us in sharing our catalogue with fans all over the world. And we’ve got some great new projects that we can’t wait to announce!”

About Oh Boy Records

As one of the longest-running independent and artist-owned labels in the country, Oh Boy Records has released recordings by singer-songwriters such as Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Donnie Fritts, Shawn Camp, Dan Reeder and Todd Snider, along with reissues of classic country music artists including Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty and more.

KULA SHAKER ADD A NEW LONDON DATE !!

KULA SHAKER

ADD A NEW LONDON DATE TO THEIR MAJOR UK DECEMBER TOUR 2016 TO CELEBRATE THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR MASSIVELY SUCCESSFUL ALBUM  ‘K’.
THEY WILL PLAY THE ALBUM IN ITS ENTIRETY FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THEY HAVE ALSO JUST ANNOUNCED A MAJOR US TOUR IN SEPTEMBER.

2016 marks 20 years since Kula Shaker exploded into the UK Britpop Scene with their million selling debut album K.
Their brand of  rock with an esoteric mix of psychedelic riffs and ideas, full of Eastern mysticism and full-tilt performances made them the most unique (often termed eccentric) of the Brit Pop bands in the Nineties.
2016 has seen the band back performing and every review of their live shows today,  still revere their energy and intense live performances as witnessed at the Roundhouse earlier this year and subsequent dates.
“Govinda” sung entirely in Sanskrit and the only Sanskrit top 10 UK single ever,  is still chanted by the crowds that attend the shows.
“Tattva”, “Hey Dude”, through to the hit single “Hush” are all explosive tunes binding everyone in anarchic pogoing unity as the years fall away.

Kula Shaker are the great heretics of British Psych Rock, named after  a ninth century Indian emperor.  2016 they comprise original members and the ever youthful Crispian Mills (vocals / guitars) / Alonza Bevan (bass) / Paul Winterhart (drums)  and with newer addition, Harry Broadbent (keyboards)

Reminiscing, the band reflected on the K era;  “I’ve got some good memories of that first run of success,” says Crispian with a smile… “We played TFI Friday with Arthur Brown. He set his head on fire and shouted ‘Don’t Panic, It’s Just The End Of The World’ in front of millions of viewers. At that point, I thought we’d done something useful with our time at the top.”

“To be honest, I can’t remember much about it all,” adds bassist Alonza Bevan, “But it was great to be a part of something that had such a reach and that genuinely affected people. It was also nice to get an ancient Indian hymn on Radio 1 in the UK. I can’t see that happening now.”
“When we’re all playing together in a room, nothing beats it,” says drummer Paul Winter-Hart, recalling sweaty pre-recording rehearsals in Westbourne Grove.

JOHN DOE

The Westerner

jjjj

Throughout his career, Doe has garnered worldwide acclaim: NPR Music describes his work as “one of the warmest, most welcome voices in pop music. There’s a beseeching quality to his singing that draws you in with curiosity,” while American Songwriter praises, “…a winning platter of ‘60s inspired rock with a singer-songwriter twist.” Doe calls The Westerner his “psychedelic soul record from the Arizona desert.”
The album features ten new tracks from Doe with guest appearances from Chan Marshall of Cat Power, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Cindy Wasserman of Dead Rock West and Tom Brosseau. The Westerner was produced by Howe Gelb (Neko Case, M. Ward), Dave Way (Fiona Apple) and Doe. The album’s artwork was designed by Shepard Fairey and Aaron Huey to support Native American rights via a campaign called Protect The Sacred, with additional photography by Jim Herrington.

HARD WORKING AMERICANS

Rest In Chaos

The Hard Working Americans do more with one moment than many artists do with an entire career, and prove it again with its latest release ‘Rest In Chaos’

With the exception of Guy Clark’s “The High Price of Inspiration,” the 13-track album was written by the band on the road, live in six different studios.

The lead track, “Opening Statement,” sets the album’s gritty tone and rolls right into “It Runs Together,” which describes Snider first meeting his ex-wife in recovery. “Half Ass Moses” is essentially three driving rock songs rolled into one, and the gospel-esque stomper “Throwing The Goats,” blasts “we’ve got all the integrity that money can’t buy.” The album’s title is nestled in “Ascending Into Madness,” which Snider says is “about being an artist and coming up with new art.”

It’s been Snider’s two-decade-plus professional proclivity to take the lyrical knife to expectation and subtly stab, then twist. On ‘Rest In Chaos’ Snider’s knife has become a machete, with both words and voice.

The Hard Working Americans will once again prove that moniker when they hit the road for a multi-city tour mere days after ‘Rest In Chaos’ releases.
