KULA SHAKER ADD A NEW LONDON DATE !!

KULA SHAKER

ADD A NEW LONDON DATE TO THEIR MAJOR UK DECEMBER TOUR 2016 TO CELEBRATE THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR MASSIVELY SUCCESSFUL ALBUM  ‘K’.
THEY WILL PLAY THE ALBUM IN ITS ENTIRETY FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THEY HAVE ALSO JUST ANNOUNCED A MAJOR US TOUR IN SEPTEMBER.

2016 marks 20 years since Kula Shaker exploded into the UK Britpop Scene with their million selling debut album K.
Their brand of  rock with an esoteric mix of psychedelic riffs and ideas, full of Eastern mysticism and full-tilt performances made them the most unique (often termed eccentric) of the Brit Pop bands in the Nineties.
2016 has seen the band back performing and every review of their live shows today,  still revere their energy and intense live performances as witnessed at the Roundhouse earlier this year and subsequent dates.
“Govinda” sung entirely in Sanskrit and the only Sanskrit top 10 UK single ever,  is still chanted by the crowds that attend the shows.
“Tattva”, “Hey Dude”, through to the hit single “Hush” are all explosive tunes binding everyone in anarchic pogoing unity as the years fall away.

Kula Shaker are the great heretics of British Psych Rock, named after  a ninth century Indian emperor.  2016 they comprise original members and the ever youthful Crispian Mills (vocals / guitars) / Alonza Bevan (bass) / Paul Winterhart (drums)  and with newer addition, Harry Broadbent (keyboards)

Reminiscing, the band reflected on the K era;  “I’ve got some good memories of that first run of success,” says Crispian with a smile… “We played TFI Friday with Arthur Brown. He set his head on fire and shouted ‘Don’t Panic, It’s Just The End Of The World’ in front of millions of viewers. At that point, I thought we’d done something useful with our time at the top.”

“To be honest, I can’t remember much about it all,” adds bassist Alonza Bevan, “But it was great to be a part of something that had such a reach and that genuinely affected people. It was also nice to get an ancient Indian hymn on Radio 1 in the UK. I can’t see that happening now.”
“When we’re all playing together in a room, nothing beats it,” says drummer Paul Winter-Hart, recalling sweaty pre-recording rehearsals in Westbourne Grove.

Worry Dolls – ENDLESS ROAD Tour – TGE, Festivals And Ian Hunter Tour

Screenshot 2018-12-07 at 15.43.34

Endless Road is the title track from the album Go Get Gone, the song is a vulnerable look at the sacrifices we’ve and others, have had to make when choosing to be touring musicians. Having spent the best part of a year on the road, it’s about the realisation that this is a life commitment – we’ll always be moving; travelling; having to say goodbye. It’s about acceptance; “I may never find a place to call mine, but maybe that’s alright”. “

‘This is unashamedly traditional: committed, personal and really quite perfect. Mojo

‘Carter Girl reaffirms Carlene Carter’s role as scion of country music’s leading family through a mixture of Carter Family classics and original material.’ Independent

‘Breathing fresh life into songs first recorded almost a century ago by the Carter family.’ The Sunday Times (feature)

The Mirror

‘Carlene has revived their songs before, but never with this intensity and emotion.’ The Guardian

‘Her thoroughly contemporary celebration of the Carter dynasty’s heritage certainly doesn’t bear any traces of dust or piety – these are songs that still speak to us today.’ The Sunday Times (review)

‘Carlene has lined up a set of superb backing musicians and called on friends such as Elizabeth Cook, Kris Kristofferson, Vince Gill and Willie Nelson to create an absolutely wonderful album of country music.’ Maverick

‘Supplemented by many studio pros, (the album) provides an up-to-date sheen, giving Carter (with soul sister Elizabeth Cook) room for their personal, interpretative stamp.’ Uncut

‘It’s a total delight.’ Acoustic Magazine

jjjjj

Having started her career in the UK with her self-titled debut album
(recorded with Graham Parker and the Rumour in 1978), Carter made London her
home for several years during her marriage to Nick Lowe (who produced her
third and fourth albums, Musical Shapes and Blue Nun), and spent a year on
the West End stage in the musical Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Carter’s strong connection with British fans was reestablished when her most
recent release, Carter Girl, debuted at #3 on the UK Country Albums chart
and was named Best Americana Album of the Year by Sylvie Simmons in MOJO
magazine.  Rolling Stone wrote: “to a certain generation, she was the cute
and spry American babe who headed to the UK and struck up some relationships
there, nearly all of them musical… this new album, produced by Don Was, is
evocative, mature, and consistently impressive… A strong and very welcome
showing for one of pop music’s long-missed characters, now back again.”

As the special guest on the John Mellencamp tour, Carter has been performing
her one-woman set in sold-out theaters across North America most of 2015 and
April of this year.  She told the Austin Chronicle: “I was pretty chuffed
that I could open for a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer as an acoustic act by
myself. Working with Mellencamp, I made new fans, people that may have never
heard of me. They may have heard I was related to the Carter Family or
Johnny Cash somehow, but what they got was pure Carlene. Very much in the
spirit of the Carter Family, I’d just go out and do what makes people happy.
I really enjoyed the process of playing by myself and I’m going to continue
to do it for a while. It really does prove my theory that it’s all about the
songs.”

Carter says of the upcoming shows: “I’m so looking forward to the dates in
England and Ireland, as I have deep roots there and it always feels like I’m
coming home when I land at London Heathrow!”  Her “special guest” on the
tour will be her husband, actor and singer Joe Breen, whose own family is
from County Clare, where his sister Christine Breen and her husband Niall
Williams are well known writers living on the family homestead.  Carter
says: “I’m so excited to be bringing the music of the Carter Family via this
‘Carter Girl’ and share some songs, stories from my life, and have a lot of
FUN at every show.”

The Regina Leader-Post: The show began with the lovely Carlene Carter
performing a 40-minute set that was tremendous considering she was able to
captivate the crowd with her voice, an acoustic guitar, and a number of
stories of what it was like to grow up as a member of the Carter clan.
Approaching 60 years of age, Carter still has an amazingly powerful voice
and made the night special even before Mellencamp came out.

Country Standard Time: Carter turned in a job well done in opening the night
playing solo acoustic. She proudly talked about the Carter Family (she’s the
granddaughter of Maybelle and daughter of June Carter Cash) as well she
should have because she sang several songs from last year’s excellent
“Carter Girl” CD, giving a context to her performance and career. Chief
among them was “Me and The Wildwood Rose” about her late sister. Like
Mellencamp, Carter has had a long career and made her older songs like “I
Fell in Love” and “Every Little Thing” sound fresh. Always a warm, friendly
presence, Carter’s voice remains in great shape. It’s a potent weapon in
infusing the songs with emotion without over-emoting. When you’re talking
Carter Family, you are talking mighty big shoes to even try to fill, and
while Carter has had her share of ups and downs in life, she deservedly
wears the mantle of “Carter Girl.”

The Charlotte Observer: With her sweet Southern twang, Carter captivated the
audience with just herself and her guitar on stage, belting out songs like
“Every Little Thing” and “Little Black Train.” She also delighted attendees
with short vignettes of growing up in the Carter family, describing how her
mother told her she should get married before she had sex or she would be
going to hell. “So I got married a whole lot,” Carter said to laughter.

Minneapolis Star Tribune: In her 40-minute acoustic opening set, Carter –
daughter of June Carter Cash – covered 100-plus years of music, going back
to songs passed down through the Carter generations, including “Little Black
Train” off her new Don Was-produced album “Carter Girl.” “They’d throw you
out on stage whether you were any good,” she quipped of the family before
the tribute to her grandma Maybelle, “Me & the Wildwood Rose.” Carter sure
sounded good Wednesday.

The Louisville Courier-Journal: Carlene Carter was all about the intimacy…
her compelling voice and out-sized personality made it feel as if she were
sitting in your lap. Her set was heavy on material from her most recent
album, “Carter Girl,” a collection of songs first recorded by The Carter
Family beginning in the late 1920s. The Carter family was ground zero for
country music as we know it, and Carter carried the weight of that immense
legacy with an easy grace and rich humanity.

Resistor is Lera’s first new album since being featured in the HBO Series True Detective season 2

LERA LYNN
as featured in HBO series TRUE DETECTIVE
To release powerful new album Resistor, Out April 29 2016

NPR Music “Songs We Love” premiered  “Drive”

“A musically upbeat rocker that redirects her darkness on the edge of town to the bright charm of the highway strip.” – NPR

jjjj
Singer-songwriter. Co-producer. Multi-instrumentalist. Lera Lynn juggles multiple roles on Resistor, an album that finds the Nashville transplant embellishing her Americana roots with a mix of spacey, left-of-center rock and experimental pop-noire.

Following the 2014 release of her critically-acclaimed sophomore release, The Avenues, Lynn spent 2015 in a creative whirlwind, kicking off the year with an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and, months later, wrapping things up with a 39-date headlining fall tour. Along the way, she also played a role in shaping the dark direction of True Detective‘s second season, both appearing in the popular HBO series as a barroom singer and contributing a handful of original songs to the show’s soundtrack. The response was overwhelming. True Detective‘s teaser trailer, which featured a clip of Lynn’s “The Only Thing Worth Fighting For” (co-written with Rosanne Cash and T Bone Burnett), racked up more than 35 million views in a matter of months, giving Lynn the assurance that a wide audience did, indeed, exist for her brand of otherworldly music.

Resistor at once embraces the darker and more provocative sides of Lynn’s songwriting. Moody and muscular, it pairs Lynn’s voice — a warm, anchoring instrument that sweeps its way through all 10 songs — with the deep-seated rumble of baritone guitars, the atmospheric swirl of keyboards, and the gauze of her own double-tracked harmonies. Lynn and her co-producer, Joshua Grange, play nearly every instrument on the album, which was tracked during a series of spontaneous, experimental recording sessions in Nashville. While The Avenues couched Lynn’s voice in layers of pedal steel and other folky instruments, Resistor takes a different approach, focusing on texture rather than twang.

From the percussive pulse of “Shape Shifter” to the greasy, slow-motion strut of “Little Ruby,” Resistor finds Lynn in the captain’s chair, confidently steering her ship into uncharted waters. “Drive,” the album’s most propulsive track, conjures up images of late-night road trips through the American desert, while songs like “Fade Into the Black” and “For the Last Time” sway and swoon, occupying the intersection where slow dances, lullabies and the soundtrack of David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet” all connect. An independent album in every regard, Resistor was funded and created not by a big-budget label, but by a songwriter who continues to maintain complete control over her art. It’s the sound Lera Lynn has always heard in her head, and never has that sound been more clearly presented than it is here.

Resistor has this otherworldly quality to it, this darkness, this sense of atmosphere and space,” says Lynn. “We used a lot of baritone guitar, which at once roots and spears through everything, with the vocals floating above and around. There’s a slow-burning intensity that at times sounds a little spooky. It’s creepy and lovely.”

Lynn gained respect early in her career with her 2011 LP release, Have You Met Lera Lynn?  The collection included her song “Bobby, Baby,” which won Merlefest’s 2011 Chris Austin Songwriting Competition (an honor she shared with Gillian Welch and Tift Merritt) and best alternative country song at the Independent Music Awards. Following the album’s release, she walked away with best country artist honors at Athens’ Flagpole Music Awards.

Lera Lynn followed up the debut album with a hair-raising cover of June Carter Cash’s classic “Ring of Fire,” recently heard on the hit TV show Pretty Little Liars, backed with the original “Don’t Make Me Wait.” With her 2014 EP release, Lying in the Sun, Lynn illustrates her versatility even further, doing much of the playing and even engineering and producing.

She made her national TV debut on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” in January, 2015 ending with David saying, “Beautiful, remember you heard it here first”.  In addition Lera performed on numerous radio shows across the country including NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor as well as sessions on NPR World Café, NPR Mountain Stage, Acoustic Café, and Sirius XM’s The Loft.

In 2014, Lynn self-released her sophomore album, The Avenues, which continues to receive praise and critical acclaim from many sources. The album was covered by NPR’s popular  “All Things Considered,” and appeared in the “Top 50 Albums of the Year” from American Songwriter (ranking #14), Rolling Stone, Huffington Post and numerous other “Best Albums of the Year” lists.

Since 2012, Lera Lynn has experienced an incredible run of touring, performing in listening rooms, concert halls, and festivals in North America and the UK which included stops at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, showcases at the Americana Music Fest, Stagecoach Festival and the Cambridge Folk Festival.  Lera ended 2015 with a 38 city headlining tour taking her coast-to-coast. If you catch Lera performing live these days, it will be with her ace band or on the rare occasion, playing as a duo with Grange. Either way, you’ll see a natural in action. “My favorite part of this job is performing in a live setting, and seeing the potential to move people through music.” Lynn’s shows are intimate regardless of venue type and feature songs spanning from her earliest recordings to the most current, including some unexpected covers.

Over the course of five years, with three albums, a self produced EP and a Soundtrack under her belt, this fiercely independent musician has developed into a distinguished and multi talented artist. “I think I’m just growing into myself a little bit—embracing whatever it is that makes me who I am as an artist and person. That comes with age, too. As you get older you feel more comfortable with being yourself. I think the new record is going to be even more of an illustration of whatever it is that I have to offer that’s unique.”

Stephen Kellogg present his new Album ” South, West, North, East “

There’s an unwavering earnestness to everything singer-songwriter Stephen Kellogg does — from his early solo work before joining his band, the Sixers, in the early aughts to present day, as he embarks on his ambitious four-part album, South, West, North, East, accordingly recorded across the country. Kellogg approaches his music with sincere altruism, and as such, it comes as little surprise the singer wants to use his forthcoming album as a means to help others.

Kellogg wrote South, West, North, East’s penultimate track, “26 Seconds (Of Silence),” following the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, when a gunman took the lives of 20 children and six faculty members at the elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Kellogg, who hails from nearby Fairfield, responded in the way he does to most things: pen, paper and guitar. The result is the somber piano ballad, which we’re proud to premiere today on Diffuser.

Kellogg has been issuing South, West, North, East in segments in the months leading up to its official Feb. 12 release. “26 Seconds” appears on the final “East” portion of the album, which is not due out until February, however, in the wake of another tragedy — the coordinated attacks in Paris on Friday, Nov. 13 — Kellogg has decided to give away the song for free and encourages listeners to donate to the American Red Cross. “I have this song and I want you to have it in case it helps,” Kellogg says.

“When the dust finally settled from the tour, and I found myself processing what had happened in Paris on Friday and the reasons I wrote this song, I couldn’t believe it had taken me this long to respond,” Kellogg tells Diffuser. “I wrote this song with Chip Johnson while I was trying to make sense or find even a shred of redemption in the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary.”

“It’s part of the ‘East’ portion of my new record, South, West, North, East, which is supposed to come out February 12,” he says. “Then Friday night… Paris. I’m in a sold-out concert hall with people in the USA trying to feel okay while our brothers and sisters across the ocean are being hunted by devils. How does one explain that or make sense of that? I have absolutely no idea, but I do know this much; it feels better to stick together and to pray and to be loving.”

Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn The first family of the banjo fly in for UK & European tour and promo in October and November

“A delightful outing.” ****The Observer

This is a wonderful album that demonstrates the versatility of the banjo through the musicianship and breadth of Fleck and Washburn” *****CMP

“If you ever doubted the banjo’s ability to take the sole spotlight, then this is potentially a Damascene moment, but with the pure pleasure of being proved wrong in such a wonderful way. Embrace it now.” Folk Radio UK

fleckwashburn
Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn released their debut duo album to widespread critical acclaim at the end of October 2014. Following a busy year of touring in the USA, the duo fly in for a UK tour in November, including a date at the Southbank Centre as part of the London Jazz Festival. There will be limited promotional opportunities while they are in the country and will be available 28th – 30th October,

The beautifully played and recorded album featured just the duo’s banjos and Abigail’s distinctive voice, with its unique blend of old-timey roots and mercurial sweetness. Instrumentally the duo worked with various combinations of seven different banjos, from the smallest ukulele banjo to the bass tones of the cello banjo, making a compelling case for the unique versatility, tonal richness and harmonic possibilities of the instrument.
Bela and Abigail cover
They re-imagined traditional songs, mixing in new original compositions ranging from the murderous and dark Pretty Polly and Shotgun Blues, through spirituals, I Am Born To Die and What Are They Doing In Heaven Today? There are songs of toil in Railroad and longing in Ride To You and songs inspired by their young son Juno, such as Little Birdie and Bye Bye Baby Blues. There’s room for a revisit to the Flecktones New South Africa, and more adventure with Little Children, the classically rooted variation on Bartok’s work, and the improvisation of Banjo Banjo. Re-purposed with an environmentally conscious slant Watcha Gonna Do is a response to recent natural disasters and the ongoing crisis of global warming.

Béla is readily acknowledged by many as one of the greatest banjo players of all time with 15 Grammy Awards to his name. Constantly pushing the boundaries of his chosen instrument first with his band the Flecktones, but also through collaborations with the likes of jazz pianists Chick Corea and Marcus Roberts, Bela sees no limit to the banjo’s range. He has also explored the banjo’s African roots travelling extensively through Mali, Gambia, Uganda and Tanzania, a journey that became a documentary film.

Abigail is a fine singer and brilliant player in her own right and her clawhammer style creates a natural counterpoint to Béla. Her own work with Uncle Earl, The Sparrow Quartet and solo, including the most recent album City Of Refuge recorded with Kai Welch and Producer Tucker Martine, has won widespread acclaim. Abigail also has broader cultural interests, having studied, lived and taught in China. She has toured Tibet and the Silk Road as a musical ambassador at the request of the US Government and played in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics.

“Alive and in constant motion, the banjo discourse provides a wondrously open backdrop for Washburn’s vocals.” NPR

“It’s an exquisite recording from a pair of musicians who, surprising nobody, can slide from song to song, slaloming through disparate musical styles that are also inextricably connected.” No Depression

In an interview with Songlines last year, Fleck claimed that the humble banjo is actually the world’s most richly versatile instrument. He’s biased, of course. But there’s plenty of evidence here that he may just be right. ****Songlines

Two modern greats of the banjo ooze bluegrass class, whether on original compositions such as Abigail Washburn’s Ride To You or on Appalachian classics such as Pretty Polly. ***The Telegraph

“Fleck and Washburn have created something very special. . . by making new songs old and old songs new, this album is musical testament to concentrating on what’s important, keeping it simple, and getting the details right.” Steve Hunt, fRoots

“…the result is a heartfelt collection that will readily find favour with fans of Gillian Welch and the Be Good Tanyas. The couple’s armoury (of banjos) creates an orchestra of picking, plucking, sliding strings that goes a long way to supporting Fleck’s claim that an instrument routinely described as ‘humble’ is actually unrivalled in its rich depths and versatility.” (8/10) Uncut
